If you want to get your hands on the road version of the Elise Race 250 track car, this is it. Lotus has announced a limited run of 30 cars of the Lotus Elise Cup 260 with carbon-fibre components as standard and performance figures of 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds.
The car takes off from where the Race 250 left off – and adds in inspiration from the Evora Gt430 and the Exige Cup 380. The car also celebrates the 70th anniversary of the brand with a laurel wreath decal and the Union Jack. There is also an option of ordering the car in Championship Gold.
Jean-Marc Gales, CEO, Group Lotus plc said, “Our philosophy for producing extraordinary vehicles is world famous, but the new Elise Cup 260 goes beyond what many believed possible from our smallest car. It is directly developed from the Elise race cars that are competing in series around the world, giving the ultimate Elise experience on the road. More power, motorsport components and the introduction of aerodynamics unheard of in its class make driving this Elise an unrivalled experience.”
The supercharged engine produces 250hp from the 1.8 litre DOHC 4 cylinder, dual VVT-i mid-mounted, transverse engine and a torque of 255Nm. It is mated to 6-speed manual gearbox with an electronic differential lock.
The visual cues include a large carbon-fibre rear wing, clamshell hood, carbon-fibre elements on the front splitter and rear diffuser, on the engine cover, roll hoop cover and sill covers along with carbon-fibre seats.
The Lotus Elise Cup 260 is supposed to be the lightest car in the line-up yet is capable of producing 180 kgs of downforce at speed. this adds to the phenomenal grip and handling of the car that already gets the benefit of fully independent double wishbone suspension with an adjustable front anti-roll bar, with Nitron coaxial coil springs and, for the first time on an Elise, adjustable Nitron high-performance dampers. The car gets 16″ wheels at the front and 17″ at the rear.
Summing up the new Lotus, Jean-Marc Gales said, “As we near the 70th anniversary of the inception of Colin Chapman’s engineering legacy, it’s only right that we build the very best cars as special editions, and the Elise Cup 260 is certainly worthy of that accolade. Our special editions have always proved extremely popular with our customers around the world, and we know they value the extensive development work that goes into each one. With just 30 examples to be built, there’s no doubt that the Elise Cup 260 is a future classic.”
