Chevrolet has announced the launch of the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Convertible ahead of its public debut at the Los Angeles Motorshow.
It will go on sale in the spring of 2018, along with the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Coupe, which debut in Dubai, itself ahead of the Dubai Motorshow.
The price of the Coupe and Convertible will begin at US$ 119,995 and 123,995 respectively.
“The new Corvette ZR1 convertible is a supercar in all respects,” said Mark Reuss, executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain. “Few others can challenge the ZR1 convertible’s power and speed while offering the exhilaration of top-down motoring.”
The car remains very close to the coupe with an increase in weight of only 27kgs due to the folding top hardware. The top can be operated at speeds of up to 50km/h. The car’s aluminium architecture helped in minimising the customisation required, with only the stowaway bin and seatbelt mount points changed.
“The ZR1 convertible is a no-compromise supercar,” said Corvette Executive Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter. “Thanks to the strong structure, the suspension tuning between coupe and convertible models is identical, meaning the ZR1 convertible offers the same benchmark performance, including a top speed of over 200 mph.”
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is capable of a 341km/h top speed with its aero package, powered by an LT5 6.2L V8 supercharged engine with 755hp output and 969Nm of torque. The gearbox used is a heavy-duty 8-speed automatic with paddle-shifters and the car can hit the standing 60mph in 3 seconds.
