Launched in 2012, the Mazda CX-5 was the company‘s first new-generation model to feature both KODO – Soul of Motion design and SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY.
Proof of the effectiveness of Mazda‘s Jinba Ittai driver-and–car-as-one ethos, and its human-centred design and engineering philosophy, the CX-5 not only garnered acclaim for its dynamic design and responsive, engaging driving performance, but has also grown into a core model accounting for approximately 25% of the company‘s annual sales. To date, more than 1.5 million units have been sold in 120 countries around the world.
The all-new Mazda CX-5 builds on this success story with refinements to every aspect of Mazda‘s unique design approach and sophisticated SKYACTIV technologies, creating a stylish, spirited and intelligent vehicle which brings a new dimension of driving pleasure to SUV customers.
Behind a more three-dimensional evolution of the brand’s frontal design, the styling goal for the all-new CX-5 was to create a simple yet bold, mature and elegant form in which character line accents are minimised and the transitions between body surfaces emphasised to create changes in light reflected off the body.
The all-new CX-5’s entirely human-centred interior design has been conceived with a focus on peerless cockpit ergonomics within an elegant, durable and spacious cabin layout, and painstaking attention to detail in the use of materials and the fit and finish of components.
Both the front and rear seats have been extensively revised to offer occupants better body core support, improved fatigue relief and greater comfort.
Nowhere is the human-centred development of Mazda’s Jinba Ittai car-and-driver-as-one design and engineering philosophy more apparent than in the driving dynamics of the all-new CX-5.
A particular focus has been paid to the minimisation of NVH within the cabin. The significant reduction of low frequency road noise, and high frequency wind and tyre noise making the all-new CX-5 interior quiet enough to allow all occupants to enjoy stress-free conversation while driving.
Further refinement of responsiveness and controllability through developments to the all-new CX-5’s SKYACTIV-BODY, SKYACTIV-CHASSIS and SKYACTIV VEHICLE DYNAMICS technologies realises a feeling of complete command over the vehicle; all its movements matching the driver’s acceleration, steering and braking inputs as precisely as possible.
Available only with automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, the SKYACTIV-G 2.5 petrol engine incorporates new technology to enhance driving performance and lower fuel consumption, including a cylinder deactivation system that shuts down two of the engine’s four cylinders under light loads, such as when cruising at a constant speed.
