The latest generation Porsche Cayenne has entered Oman with local importer Porsche Oman showcasing the new cars on offer at a glittering ceremony at the InterContinental hotel.
The new generation Cayenne not only builds on the strengths of the new MLBEvo platform offering considerable weight savings through its ingenious use of high strength steel and aluminium, it also brings in a new generation of high performance turbocharged engines, with the top of the line Cayenne Turbo now generating 550hp and 770Nm of torque from the biturbo V8 engine.
Elias Awad, Brand Manager of Porsche Centre Oman, SATA LLC said: “Since its initial launch, the Cayenne has been one of the most popular models in Oman, and I have no doubt that the third generation, which offers even more sports car performance and practicality, will continue this success story. For me, the new Cayenne’s versatility is truly unique. It is at home on any road, but it is equally ready to explore new terrain. It enjoys a short sprint as much as a long road trip, and the commute to work as much as a lap on the track. It is capable of producing a superb drive experience virtually anywhere, and that is really what sets the Cayenne apart from any other SUV. We’re very excited to be welcoming it to Oman today.”
The new body design allows the luggage compartment to increase by 100 litres, with a larger cabin space as well. The new generation of Porsche advanced cockpit that debuted on the Porsche Panamera is present here too, with tactile response from its piano black touch surfaces, minimalistic use of buttons and a large new 12.3″ touch display.
The engines on offer range from the base 3.0-litre V6 turbo engine with 340hp and 450Nm of torque, to the Cayenne S 2.9-litre V6 biturbo (which in itself is a smaller version of the top end V8) with 440hp and 550Nm of torque. The top end V8 on the Cayenne Turbo allows it to hit the standing 100 km/h mark in 4.1 seconds (3.9 seconds with the sport chrono package) and a top speed of 286 km/h.
The matching performance figures for the Cayenne and Cayenne S are 6.2 seconds (5.9 seconds with sport chrono), 245 km/h and 5.2 seconds (4.9 seconds with sport chrono) and 265 km/h.
