Al Jenaibi International Automobiles, the official BMW Group importer in Oman, showcased BMW’s latest offerings at a launch event held at their Muscat showroom. The event saw BMW Oman present the all new BMW X2, the all new BMW X3, the all new BMW M5 and the all new BMW 6 Gran Turismo. (Yes we know that’s a lot of all-new cars.)
Speaking at the launch, Johnny Oommen, CEO at Al Jenaibi International Automobiles, commented: “We have been waiting with great enthusiasm to reveal these new models to our customers in Oman so we are thrilled that they are finally here and we are able to showcase them to our loyal customers. We take pride in creating the ideal platform to give Oman’s BMW fans the best brand experiences – with this exclusive preview we are ensuring they receive a truly hands-on and up-close experience of the latest line-up.”
The BMW X2 is a new generation of crossover that takes over from the X1. The XDrive 20i variant is powered by a two litre, twin scroll turbocharged, direct injection engine with 192hp and 280Nm of torque. The gearbox is an 8-speed steptronic unit and power is fed to all wheels on demand, with electronic differential lock control. The car also gets an optional electronic damper control. The sDrive 18i unit gets a smaller 1.5-litre 3-cylinder unit which is also turbocharged. The power output is 140hp, torque is 220Nm and the gearbox is the 7-speed steptronic.
The BMW X3 is in its third generation and comes as the M40i, the xDrive30i and the xDrive20i (depending on market). The M40i is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder inline turbocharged engine with 360hp output and 500Nm of torque mated with an eight speed steptronic gearbox. The XDrive30i gets a four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 252hp output and 350Nm of torque with an eight speed steptronic transmission. Finally the X3 xDrive20i gets a slightly less powerful four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 184hp output and 290Nm torque. This unit too gets the eight-speed steptronic transmission.
The new BMW M5 debuts the use of BMW’s xDrive system, with a selectable rear wheel only mode to connect to previous generations. However it now brings a whole new level of performance with its 4.4-litre V8 twin scroll turbocharged engine, 600hp output, 750Nm of torque and eight-speed M steptronic gearbox with Drivelogic programming, Active M differential and Adaptive M suspension.
The all-new 6 series Gran Turismo comes in two engine variants – the BMW 630i Gran Turismo and the 640i Gran Turismo. The latter also gets a version with xDrive all-wheel drive (market dependant). The Gran Turismo sports the typical rear end treatment of the BMW GT’s with a refreshed exterior. The 630i is powered by a four cylinder two-litre turbocharged engine with 258hp output and 400Nm of torque, while the 640i gets the 3.0-litre inline six turbocharged engine with 340hp output and 450Nm of torque. Both versions get the eight-speed steptronic gearbox.
