It seems that the Japanese premium luxury brand’s all-electric car production aspiration lies in the Q Inspiration Concept which has been given the official go ahead. The first job is to get a dedicated working platform which INFINITI officials have confirmed is underway.
“INFINITI is developing a new platform for electrified vehicles inspired by the Q Inspiration Concept car, which shows the new design language for the age of autonomy and electrification,” says INFINITI chairman and global president Roland Krueger.
Once that is done, the rest shouldn’t take too long. The EV-based model will be one of five new models the automaker will build in China over the next five years specifically for the Chinese domestic market. As of now, the target year for launch of these products is 2021, according to INFINITI.
It may be recalled that INFINITI unveiled the Q Inspiration Concept earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show with dual message. The concept showcased Infiniti’s unique variable compression turbo-charged four-cylinder engine as the technology side of things while the styling cues hinted at future design direction.
“The Q Inspiration concept car takes the traditional sedan architecture to its next stage of evolution,” says Karim Habib, INFINITI Executive Design Director. The design of the concept presented also highlighted the brand’s evolutionary design cues. The car’s cosmetic grille is huge with wide intakes on the lower valance. The car sports flowing roof which neatly merges to fastback-like rear end. Inside, it’s a minimalist presentation with a floating centre console, large dashboard, and contrasting accents. No powertrain details have been shared for the forthcoming EV range. INFINITI operates in China via a partnership with Dongfeng Motor Company Ltd.
