Audi used the platform of an exclusive brand event in Shenzhen, China to unveil its new top of the line SUV, the Audi Q8. While based on the mechanicals of the Audi Q7, the Q8 actually shares more with its distant cousin, the Lamborghini Urus, than the former.
The new dimensions at just under 5 metres long, 2 metres wide and 1.71 metres high provide for a wider, squatter and shorter vehicle that maximises the space for five occupants, while offering Audi’s new design language and some welcome new technology.
Power trains are now rationalised with the inclusion of Audi’s 48-volt mild hybrid system that does away with an independent starter motor, allowing for coasting and engine starts at reasonable speed.
The interiors reflect the design language from the A8, with two large displays dominating the console, a new MMI with natural language recognition and the 12.3″ virtual cockpit.
