Ford Motor Company has announced a shake-up of its European and UK based operations that will result in an expected job loss that could run into the thousands. While the UK facilities are currently outside the purview of the plan, that will change if the UK is unable to work out a Brexit deal.
Globally, Ford has already announced a focus on SUVs and Crossovers as opposed to traditional hatchbacks and sedans and this would definitely impact European product planning as the market is still predominantly based on hatchbacks.
In addition, there is a marked shift to electric and hybrid drivetrains, which will involve new product as well as reorganized production facilities.
Ford has also announced a deeper focus on its commercial vehicle business.
